Hindu Baby Girl Names: A to Z
A name can carry a family memory, a prayer or a sound you love. Use this A–Z collection to make a small shortlist, then say each name aloud with the family surname.
636 naming ideas: 30 entries for each of the 21 fuller letter sections. F, Q, W, X and Z have shorter sections, including a clear note where no name has been added. These are selected ideas, not a complete count of all possible Hindu names.
About this list: It includes traditional, devotional, modern and regional names used by Hindu families. Some names are shared with other communities or used for more than one gender. English spellings vary, and two spellings may represent the same name. Not every name here has a Sanskrit origin.
Choose the first sound, not only the English letter, if your family follows a rashi or nakshatra naming custom. Read the zodiac guide before matching a name to an astrological sign.

Z — 3 names (short list)
Z is a short section. Some regional names use Z where another English spelling may use J or Jh. This does not make every Z name a traditional Hindu name. Browse J names for more ideas.
- Zankhana (झंखना)Longing (Gujarati)
- Zarna (झरना)Waterfall; regional spelling of Jharna
- Zamkuba (झमकुबा)A traditional Gujarati devotee's name
How to choose from your shortlist
- Pick five to ten names you like.
- Ask a speaker of the original language about pronunciation and the intended meaning.
- Check initials, the full name and the spelling you want on official records.
- If you follow a naming ceremony, confirm the recommended sound with your family or a trusted practitioner.
- Choose a name you are comfortable using every day. A naming list cannot promise a child a particular personality or future.
Questions parents often ask
Are all these names used only by Hindus?
No. Names can cross languages, regions and religions. This is a collection of ideas for Hindu families, not a rule about who may use a name.
Are spelling variants different names?
Sometimes, but not always. A long vowel, a regional pronunciation or a different English spelling can refer to the same underlying name. Use the original script and family pronunciation when checking.
Why are some letters shorter?
The English alphabet does not match Indian-language sounds one to one. Rather than inventing Q or X spellings, we have left those sections clearly marked. F, W and Z also have limited selections here.
Will the first letter tell me the birth rashi?
No. A traditional naming sound may be associated with a sign, but a birth-based rashi depends on the birth chart. A name chosen for another reason cannot reliably reveal that sign.
